ATTN: ALL (Upload your ACstats)

Post by Heatmiser » Fri May 23, 2003 1:29 am

The title says it all. We should start to see some numbers on the chain page now. The fact the we don't have numbers for many people tells me many of you haven't been sending in uploads. So lets get on it. Upload ACstats tonight if you haven't already. In fact, even if you have, send in another one. The data base needs multiple reference points to track xp.

Please get on this if you are not showing any numbers on the chain page.
Check the link in my sig to see if you are showing numbers.

I'm not terribly impressed right now... ....in fact I'm quite upset and want to know why I went from about 120+% to failing all practically over night since this reset thing.?

Also...the entire time I've been in this chain I've never failed or even been anywhere close to failing until I uploaded tonight! What the heck happened?

All the data was reset so everyone is at a clean slate. Just continue hunting at your regular pace and all will be well with the world again.

Yeah, the 21 day cycle is reset. All old data was purged. This had to be done to fix the anomolies we were getting in the data. The data you are seeing now is correct. Its just that the xp you had in the bank for overpassing quota is gone.

Just hunt as you normally do and everything will be fine.
Your numbers will pick up.

I really wanted to post this to let everyone know, that just because the chain page was down, doesn't mean ACstats is not tracking data. So don't think this is a chance to sit back and slack, if you do, you will find that you are failing horribley when you do send in your update.

So hunt as usual, and get those updates in.

Thanks.

Having to purge the database is one of those things that happens with computers (thankfully only rarely though). Stinking computers!

Guys this is really worrying me...

I haven't been able to play/update since we had this problem
and I dread to think of what my figures looks like now...

Also just before this happened I was 86+ million in credit
and like the other posters have never been anywhere near
failing.
So now instead of coming back to the game finding
a dent in my 86+ million credit, I will have to work my butt off
just to break even. I know you guys will take past history into account
but loosing my credit puts pressure on me and whipes out any possiblilty
of a break from the game for whatever purpose.

Don't get me wrong, I m not blaming anyone....as the saying goes...
S~~~ happens but we really need a contingency plan to cover such events. I am not to hot on the workings of ACstats, but maybe the solution is to manually record xp credit/deficit once a week in a praise
type post....
This will have the added bonus of recognising the top achievers.

What do you think managers?
Keep your powder dry and your pecker hard and the world will turn!!!

In a nutshell, that would be too much work. As managers, we dedicate a lot of in game and out of game time to the chain. Im just not willing to dedicate more time to manually recording xp, and Im gonna go out on a limb for the other managers and say they aren't either.

The database is (99.9%) effective at tracking xp. This is really the only major problem we've had with it and honestly I don't expect to see more. We'll all just have to bite the bullet here and deal with the loss of our xp "banks". Remember that your bank only goes for 21 days and then starts over, so just think of this as beginning a new 21 day cycle.

For your case specifically though, if there is some reason you can not get in game for an extended period, then you should request to be removed. If its a temporary problem, then get it fixed and catch up, but if its something that you think will cause a massive quota failure, its much better to be removed and come back with a clean slate when you have the problem solved.

I have a print out of the chain members that was generated only a few days prior to the database purge.

There are a couple of things to remember here. The first is that your XP is handled correctly by the game, regardless of whether any of us run ACStats, Treestats, or whatever. If we hunt as we normally would, none of us should be in trouble. There is a tendency sometimes for people to quit hunting when the database looks funny, reswears are in progress, etc, but that would be a bad thing to do.

The other thing to remember is that if someone is hurting on XP, I can look and see what their numbers were like on the print out from before. If you had an XP surplus then, there won't be a problem

Heatmiser hit it on the head. In 21 days everything will be old data anyway, so three weeks from now, none of this will matter. Play happy, play relaxed, play like you normally do. The quota will take care of itself.

Also like Heatmiser, I do not want to start tracking data manually. It's way too much work and I already give up a lot of time (as the other managers do also) from the game to do administrative tasks. Plus, there's no need. Everything seems to be working correctly now, and all will be well.

Look I don't get worked up much, BUT I feel I need to state something.
(Like it was not already).

Look there was a bug in the uploading program, which was causing invalid data. The bug has been fixed. All the data being uploaded now is being done so correctly.

This is a NEW system, and with new systems there will be a few bugs. This Bug was major. There was no way to fix the data due to the nature of the bug. The data had to be purged.

So hunt and upload.
Let the Managers and I worry about the calulations.

Just in case the complainers make you forget, Ranger :

There are lots of people here that appreciate and recognise your hard work.
Thank you for providing a great service to the chains, and for putting in all your hard work.

What part of the above is complaining or having a go at Ranger????

I tell you what, I won't ever post my opinion/ideas on this board again....
Its really not worth the hassel.

I never said anything about complaining.
I was just restating why the data was purged.

A PURGE (/e crossfingers) WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

All the data that has been uploaded so far after purge looks great.

There has even been a rollover, and the code worked wonderfully.

EDIT: just a little.

El-Tazar, it really wasn't you that anything was directed at (as far as I know anyway). The last few posts were the result of other /tells, other posts, other PMs, etc., all kind of piling up to the point where some clarification was needed. :)

Keep on posting, and if you happen to post something that stirs up some discussion, hey, that's good too. :)
