I don't know if this makes much sense, but, from everything I have learned about this game... nothing make sense.
BUT...
I seem to find red plants in MASS numbers in areas where snow and grass meet. For example, the base of the mountains as you run E of Qualbar. There is an area behind my cottage where there is a large green area of grass, surrounded by snow, I find red plants on the border of this constantly.
I'm also finding Green plants all over the old "Pure One" spawn area outside of Samsur, at the Yinar Settl. area.

Also Red seems to be high in the area around Danby. Picked up 10 the other day.

i seem to find 3 blue,snow green, light blue, and a few yellow's all behind fort teth =)
