Nakamuro Zataki's Queen Quest Guide

Post by Khaz-Modaan » Fri Mar 21, 2003 9:55 pm

The not so short guide to the Queen's Quest.

What is this quest?

This quest first appeared shortly after the release of Dark Majesty when the island of Maere Lasle was opened. Deep in the Royal Hive the Olthoi Queen resides, and it is the goals of the brave adventurers to kill her and so bring peace to the island once again. But to do that they must first weaken her prison by breaking the Menhir rings scattered across the plateau.

What is needed to do this quest?

To spawn the Queen you need to aquire five complete Pyreal Bells and hand in one to each of the five Aun drummers. The plateau is level 35 restricted and there is a three week timer on delivering bells. If you hand in a second bell before the timer is out you become a Stonebreaker. Stonebreakers can hand in a bell, but the aun drummer will not be fooled again and he will respawn after a short while.

The quest dungeons are all level 70 restricted. The group will need atleast one melee that can tank the Queen and one mage to debuff her in addition to the slayer.

How to aquire bells?

There are three chests. The first one is located on the surface at 48.8N 80.5W, the second one can be found in East Fork Dam at 48.5N 76.4W and the third in North Fork Dam at 51.4N 76W.

The first chest is easy, just buff up and run there, it is only guarded by some smaller Olthois.

The second chest is in East Fork Dam can also be done solo, but it is easier if you have a friend to do the levers for you. The lever is in a room guarded by two diamond golems not far from the entrance, just jump down into the water and take right, there is a ramp up that leads to the room. From the room continue hugging the right wall. There is an acid bath with a locked door futher down that you have to pass so be prepared with your lockpicks. The lever door is behind it, up a ramp. After you are done looting the chest take the surface portal, it is in the room opposite to the chest just up another ramp.

The third chest is located in North Fork Dam. There is a waterfall down the stairs from the entrance. Jump down there and hug the left wall, you will find a ramp out of the water leading to a lever room. There is a locked door there with the chest behind it.

Combine the three different pieces to aquire the Pyreal Bells. You will need five of them.

Breaking the Menhir Rings

There are five Menhir rings scattered across the plateau. When the quest is reseted an Aun drummer is spawned in the first ring. Handing him a bell to start it. The curious Aun will then ring it and the disonant sound from the bell will cause the stones to break. Fifteen minutes later another drummer spawns in the next ring.

53.0N 73.3W
49.2N 74.6W
46.5N 75.9W
44.7N 80.9W
50.1N 80.4W

If rubble is handed in then the previous Aun drummer will respawn, ie the quest is set back half an hour.

Buffing for the Dungeons

When we do the dungeons we bane all armor for bludge, pierce, slash and acid. Cast all life protects since you never know when you have to do an unexpected run on the surface. In addition to the standard creature buffs you might want run buffs since there is a bit of running on this quest and for the North Fork Dam you also want jump buffs.

Eviscator Spraying

To be able to enter the Royal Hive each person has to be sprayed. The spraying lasts for 90 minutes. There are three places where you can be sprayed. North Fork Dam, Wasteland Hive and where the Queen spawns in the Royal Hive.

The North Fork has the most eviscators, so a large group will get sprayed faster there, however the Wasteland Hive has easier access to Royal Hive.

There is a useful trick that can be useful to know. If you stand in a doorway when the door closes it becomes hollow and both people and monsters will be able to pass through.

The lever room in the North Fork Dam 51.4N 76W is reached by a small ramp up to the left of the waterfall (see instructions for getting bells above). The person(s) going there will have to open a locked door.

The rest of your team jump down into the water and go to the ramp on the right side. The water does damage and there are some vapors in there so be careful. Once you are up the ramp, pick the locked door then keep hugging the right wall until you get to an acid pit killing Olthois when needed, at the end of it is another locked door that needs to be picked. Once past that it proceed to hug the left wall until you get to the lever door (dont be fooled by the wooden door up a ramp on the right side). The Eviscators in the room after the metal lever door can be used for spraying. A tip is to have the slayer, tanker and debuffer spray last in case anything goes wrong so that they can reenter the Royal Hive.

It is possible to solo this part, but you must be careful not to get stuck while running down from the lever room.

Once everyone is sprayed proceed past the second acid pit, exit ramp is on the left side. The tunnel takes you to another room with a ledge you can jump up on. In the next room is another ramp, follow it until you get to a wooden door at the top. Pick it open and jump down to the surface portal. Just before the wooden door are two small rooms on left and right side, here is the switch for the Royal Hive portal in the first acid pit you passed, but we rarely use that one.

The other option is to get sprayed in Wasteland Hive 50.8N 79.1W. When entering this dungeon there are four drops, north, south, east and west. Send everyone but the lever guy(s) down the east tunnel.

To open the first door the lever person has to jump down the south shaft (note where the surface portal is so you can get back there) and at the first intersection take right. Proceed up and past the acid pit and locked door until you get to a dead end room. There is a floortrap there that opens the first lever door. Once open run down again and take the surface portal, reenter the dungeon and this time jump down the north shaft. The north side is identical to the south side, only difference is that you take left at the first intersection. Return to the top once the second lever door is opened and rejoin your friends in the east shaft.

Both of the lever doors can also be opened by floortraps just behind them in case any of the doors closes too early. The spraying Eviscators are just beyond the second door and there is a Royal Hive portal there too.

Entering Royal Hive through Mt Elyrii

The fastest way to enter the Royal Hive if you are not already in one of the dungeons with a Royal Hive portal is to go to Mt Elyrii at 48.5N 81.7W. It is populated by some wisps and olthois. Upon entering the dungeon there are four ramps down, take the North East one. As long as you keep going down you are on the right way, there is a big jump down, and a little beyond it is the Royal Hive portal.

Entering the Royal Hive

The first room of the Royal Hive is symmetric with a portal and a ramp down in each direction. At the end of the ramp is a small room with a floortrap that opens the lever doors below. First door is opened by North, second by East, third by South (NES). At the top of the dungeon is a fifth ramp that leads down into the dungeon, here is a door that need to be picked. Past the door is a drop, jump down then take north ramp leading futher down, then head west to the first lever door. Behind each of the doors in the Royal Hive is a floortrap that opens it, in case the door closes too early. Proceed down hugging the right wall to the second door, then the third door.

Once everyone is at the third door you can safely rebuff if needed. There is a short drop down then a large hall, at the end of that hall is another drop that leads to the Queen's chamber. There is a Royal Hive portal leading back to the top in the Queen's chamber, but you can not enter it if your spraying timer has expired.

Dont forget the person handeling the levers, use the floortraps behind the doors to open them for him.

Killing the Queen

There are a couple of different tactics that can be used to kill the Queen depending on what group you have. Common to all is that you need someone to hold the Queen in place by tanking her, the higher melee defense that person has the easier it will be. Baneing shirts and pants in addition to your normal armor can help also.

Chicken Run

Everyone jumps down, clears the spawn and then helps kill the first Queen. Once she is dead a second Queen will spawn, head for the portal leading back to the top of the dungeon! Make your way down again to the last jump just before the Queen, but this time only the tank goes down to the Queen. The rest of the people stay on the ledge healing and revitalizing.

If the slayer is a melee he will be the tank, if he is an archer or mage then he will fire from the ledge down on the Queen. This is the safest way, but there are more fun ways to do it.

Full Charge

Everyone jumps down to the Queen, clears the spawn and kills the first Queen. Once the second one spawns the tanker rushes forward and engages her. The slayer attacks the Queen and the rest of the group takes care of the Eviscators, Brood Nobles and Royal Guards. More action since everyone has something to do.

Remember to debuff the Queen properly. If you have a melee or archer as slayer then it is very important that you keep the Queen festered since she has an insane regeneration rate. Imperil and vuln as needed. Also debuff her unarmed combat, strength and coordination so the tank can evade more.

Afterwards

Once the Queen dies immediatly loot the Olthoi Queen's Head and the Olthoi Eggs, they will evaporate if left on the ground. Turn in the head to Aun Hareltah in Timaru for Queen Slayer title and xp reward. The 40M xp is shared among the people in the fellowship.

How do you know the Quest is free?

If you want to know what state the quest is in then the easiest way is to head to Timaru and pay Aun Hareltah a visit. If he is meditating in front of the fire close to the entrance then the quest is free. If he is standing to the right of the door then one to four bells have been handed in and the quest is running. When he is standing in the back of his hut the Queen has spawned.

Once she is dead it takes a while for the quest to reset. Note that the head can only be handed in when the quest is free.
