Race change tinking

Is the racial change tinking something thats pretty much a 100% (or close to it) given good salvage and a good skill level?

Just wondering if its worth trying to tink up a nice blade I found with wrong race reqs on it.

Also, should an item be tinked with the imbue first, then the others (iron, granite, racial change etc)?

I would imbue it first. There is a 2/3 chance the imbue will fail; I'd hate worse if it failed with several bags of iron in it.
