Known issues and solutions

Post by Trekman » Wed Dec 31, 2003 8:36 pm

I created this thread for specific error information and moved relevant posts from Tips&Tricks to here for a better differentiation.

Error in WebRequest.Post. Number: -2146697208, Description: Method '~' of object '~' failed

If you get that message repeatedly in the chat window, you do not have set a default language in your Internet Explorer.

-Quit AC and Decal.

- Open IE, select "Tools" -> "Internet Options", press the "Languages" button.
Press the "Add" button and select a language from the appearing list.

- Close all IE windows.

- Restart Decal and AC.

Please check the IE language also if you receive other error messages in the chat window.

If you live outside the USA you might have a problem with the display of times (local time, quest time).

The plugin requires a certain ShortDate display setting which may be different in countries outside USA.

If you face the problem that the local time of your toon is not displayed correctly or that quest times seem to move each day you have to

- close AC and Decal

- select "Start"->"Settings"->"Control Panel"->"Regional Settings".

There somewhere (depending on Windows version) you will find a setting named "Short Date" which you have to change to "yyyy-MM-dd".

This affects the date display of your complete system (Explorer, DIR command). If you can live with that you will have correct dates/times in MJ.

It may happen that MJ IRC reports something like "Nickname already used".

This will probably happen if all of those 3 things apply :

- your name is 17+ characters long

- you use MJ for IRC

- you use ElTank with enabled ElComms

Both ElTank and MJ (i.e. LD) use sorcery.net as IRC server.
MJ uses your name to connect to IRC.
ElTank uses the name too - but it adds "_AC" to your name as an attempt to make it unique.
But as the name length limit of the server is 17, the server cuts off the "_AC" or any character after the 17th for both plugins.
The result is that two programs use the same nickname on the same server at the same time (even though in different channels), hence the error message.

If that happens to you is up to you whether you want to

- disable IRC in Meginjarder's IRC tab

- disable ElComms (or the IRC part if possible, I dont know ElTank)

You might get various error messages when logging into AC and one of the following numbers is part of them :

-1072896682
-1072896680

In that case you have to update/reinstall the Windows XML parsers.
First try to install only this one :

Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4)

If that does not help, you have to install this one too :

MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2 (Microsoft XML Core Services)
